Environment & Parks (EP) Committee

  • 07 Jun 2021
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

This meeting will be led by incoming Co-chair Suzanne Black and veteran Winnie Frost.

The topic for our first meeting of 2021 on Monday 7 June will be the Grange Property Plan as recommended by Fairfax County Parks.  In the event the weather is uncooperative or if the din from the cicadas is too deafening, we can revert to a virtual Zoom meeting.  In preparation for that, please email environment@gfca.org for a ZOOM invitation.

To celebrate Spring, the Grange's lovely oaks, as well as what appears to be a steady return to normal, we are planning to hold the meeting outside behind the Grange at one of the covered picnic areas.  We will of course adhere to prevailing Covid-19 protocols at the meeting.  In addition to explaining the Plan, Jerry has offered to lead a guided walk-through of the Grove.  The meeting will commence at 7pm.

Great Falls resident and forest expert Jerry Peters will provide an overview of the plan and an update on the County's implementation of it.  EP member Chris Rich will also speak to the urgent need to develop a plan to remove invasive plants to ensure success of the Plan. The Plan focuses on improving the health of all trees on the property and restoring natural forest processes and understory plants in the oak grove behind the Grange.
